Mileage Rates for 2007

The standard mileage rates for employees, self-employed individuals, or other taxpayers to use in computing the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical, or moving purposes are:

*Katrina relief provisions effective through December 31, 2006:
bulletThe mileage rate for deductions claimed by individuals for use of vehicles for charitable purposes is raised from the current 14 cents/mile to 70 percent of the business rate, if the vehicles were used to provide relief related to Hurricane Katrina. 
bulletIf the individual is a volunteer and is reimbursed for the use of the personal vehicle, the individual does not have to pay income tax on the reimbursement, provided that reimbursement does not exceed the current business mileage rate.
